Clinical Laboratory Processor

Job Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Processor is dedicated to providing quality service in a timely, courteous, and cost effective manner and will work in tandem with the Lab Assistants, Medical Technologists, and Hospital staff to help provide quality diagnostic service to our customers. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. Location specific tasks and competencies may apply. Essential Functions
Follows policies and procedures, processes laboratory test requisitions. Reviews requisitions for completeness, enters data into laboratory information system, labels specimens, centrifuges, aliquots and loads specimens onto laboratory analyzers under the direct supervision of a Medical Technologist/Technician. Answers telephones, takes and relays messages. Inventories and requests needed supplies to ensure continuous operation. Prepares and packages lab send outs and assures results are sent to Providers. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical necessity. Work requires the analytical ability to gather and interpret data in situations where the information or problems are not overly difficult or complex. Checks laboratory requisition for tests ordered. Enters patient demographics into EHR accurately including specimen information and test requested properly to ensure appropriate billing and assure that all tests ordered are run. Reporting Results: Accurately enter and review reference testing results in EHR. Deliver reports in a timely manner to the nurses' station and physicians' boxes. Properly labels all blood tubes as outlined by the policy. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
Education
High School graduate or GED required.
Experience/Training
Six (6) months previous hospital lab experience preferred.
License/Certifications
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) ASCP, AMT or AAB certification or equivalent Medical Laboratory Technician licensure preferred. Washington State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy preferred. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.
Other Skills
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. This position is very active and requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 20 pounds and position patients to perform phlebotomy. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
